FAQs for Treasurers

Are ‘home’ teams responsible for board/game fee?

LCL bills member clubs for use of our two central venues – St Margaret’s (SMH) and MindSports Centre (MSC) – and both participating clubs pay the same board fee regardless of who is notionally “home” or “away”.

Is “Board Fee” separate from ECF Grading Fee?

ECF fees are completely different from “Game Fees”. Put simply, all but the most occasional players should be at least Bronze members of ECF. Details of joining fees are at the ECF Site. It’s the player’s responsibility to join, and we do nag clubs during the year if they have too many non-members active in the league. ECF charges the League £20 (currently) for each non-member who plays 4 or more games in a season’ and we pass that onto the clubs. The sting in the tail is that if the same player plays 4 or more times in another league, there’s a second charge to pay! So definitely worth being sure your members are in ECF. Check the current status of your club at the LMS site.

What fees are payable by clubs to join the League?

There are no membership fees for clubs to join LCL if they enter a team into the League. Entry fees for teams into the 2026 / 27 divisions are £30 for an 8-board team, and £25 for a 4-board team. Entries into the Eastman Cup are free for League clubs, and £60 per team for others.

Board fee for matches played at SMH or MSC are £8 per board. So, a total of £32 for a 4-board match, and twice that for 8-boards.

Eastman Cup matches are not charged board-fee for fixtures played on nights on which we already have a booking (please check with the League Secretary that there is room for an additional match on your preferred date). If we have to book an extra evening, we will ask the competing clubs to refund our costs.

There are no entry fees to the Eastman Cup if your club has entered one 8-board or two 4-board teams in a League competition. For others, we ask for the same entry fee as an 8-board team (currently: £30).
