As you may be aware, the London Chess Classic announced an event at the Emirates Stadium starting on the 29th of November, clashing with the first of our London Chess League FIDE weekenders. Unfortunately, as we didn’t know these dates in advance and announced our congress dates a number of months ago, we weren’t in a position to proactively do much about the clash.

We have recently been speaking to a large number of our usual congress participants, and opinion is split between event attendance – some players would like to play in the longer events at the Classic, and others don’t have a full week off work/school and would prefer to play in a weekender.

However, given that the split in attention is likely to impact enjoyment and attendance at both events, we have made the decision to cancel our first FIDE weekender (29/Nov-01/Dec).

If you have already entered, you may move your entry to one of our other dates:

• 14-16/Feb/2025
• 14-16/Mar/2024
• 30/May-01/Jun/2025

You may also ask for a refund of your entry fee – please respond to this email and let me know and this will be promptly arranged for you.

We’re sorry again for the inconvenience – hopefully in the future, if we have correspondence with other events being planned where we can select different dates, we can do something about this. Otherwise, sadly it’s just one of those things where we can only react once other organisers have announced their events.
